Formulated for Extra Small to Medium Birds
HOPP was specifically formulated to meet the nutritional needs of pet birds weighing 450 grams or less. Larger species such as macaws, cockatoos, and Amazons have higher metabolic demands and require a more robust nutritional profile to maintain optimal health. Feeding a diet designed for smaller birds could lead to nutritional deficiencies over time.
To establish the appropriate weight range, Harrison's has conducted a one-year feeding trial confirming that birds under 450 grams thrive on this formula. However, if you have an overweight Amazon parrot in the 500-gram range, HOPP may be used as part of a veterinarian-supervised weight reduction plan.
For larger species Harrison's High Potency Coarse or Harrison's Lifetime Coarse formulas already meets the nutritional requirements of these larger bird species.
